Daredevil will never be a "kid appeal" character for any but the most precocious and traumatized of kids because everything about his premise requires an adult perspective to truly understand and appreciate. 10/10

Most superhero parents were living saints. The Kents, the Waynes, Aunt May and Uncle Ben, all above reproach. Meanwhile, Maggie and "Battlin' Jack" Murdock were both complicated people at best. That's a hard sell for a superhero story. 9/10

Matt Murdock's dad was a prize fighter who was murdered for not taking a dive. At best he knew his other fights were fixed. Depending on the story he also bet on himself after agreeing to throw the fight and double-crossed the Mafiosos whom he also may have already been moonlighting as a leg-breaker for. 8/10

There's even nuance to Daredevil's powers. His super-senses compensate for his blindness partially, but not completely. He can hear your heartbeat from across the room but he can't tell you the color of your shirt or read the billboard you're pointing at. 5/10

When writers do try to flatten and simplify Daredevil's premise by making Matt Murdock something other than a defense attorney, like, say, for example, a prosecutor, the result is always BAD, because that's a fundamental betrayal of the character's premise. 4/10
