If you go to my local supermarket there are about 100 trolleys—but only about 10% are fully functional with all their wheels and compartments intact.

The Brussels region in Belgium wants to introduce legal obligations for large supermarkets to donate unsold food.

Eurostat estimates that roughly 10% of all the food made available to EU consumers ends up in the trash. In 2020, that amounted to nearly 59 million tons, according to the EU.

Even with having to pay a delivery charge, my food shop is always cheaper. Why? I can’t be tempted by specials and promos. I can clearly see what I’m paying and compare prices. If they’ve made a mistake, they reimburse me.

Which grocer wins the award for the most expensive and numerous pricing errors in favor of the store on a single receipt?

The Fresh Market! Now I have to save the receipt.

For awhile, the winner was Earthfare, but it's gone. Then it was Deep Roots co-op.

Earthfare got so bad that I wrote the state agency that regulates that and started taking a marker with me to write prices on each item.

For me, the winners for best accuracy are Harris Teeter and Food Lion.
