Really playing Super Metroid for the first time, I'm surprised at how good it is. It doesn't feel like a 30 year old game.

It manages to guide the player so well through level design, but still always requires and rewards thorough exploration.

So you have to really engage with the world, and that in turn makes the atmosphere so much stronger. (+ the awesome music)

Such good design, it must have been mind-blowing for people who played it back in 94

My 11yo is currently playing Super Metroid randomized. He's awesome at the game, but in this hack, due to not getting the upgrades when needed, I get to see him perform every single trick in the book.

Frame perfect stuff. He reaches areas I never managed to as a kid and thought were out of reach.

Absolutely amazing.

Super Metroid has to be one of the top games of all time for the SNES! Incredible that people are still playing it (and beating records) years later. If I break 2h, it’s a miracle. These guys are next level.

Heck yeah, 1:28! I think that pretty much ends my brief #SuperMetroid #Speedrunning story arc. I could potentially shave off another minute or two with some more practice and better luck, but I'm not concerned about my exact time. I just wanted to crack the 1:30 mark.

Just did another #SuperMetroid 100% run. Got 1:31, which is my best time thus far. I had been hesitant to say what my times were, but after looking at the leader boards it seems like 1:31 is actually pretty good. I don't have any ambitions of holding any records or anything, but I'd love to get under 1:30 and I think I could do it if I had a run where I didn't mess up a whole bunch of stuff.

I'm not a speedrunner, but lately I've been doing speedruns of #SuperMetroid just for fun. At first I just wanted to find the perfect route through the game, but now I feel like I've found it and I'm just seeing how much more time I can shave off via precision. The weird thing is, the last couple of runs I've done have been like five whole minutes faster than all of the runs I did previously and I have NO idea why.

Time to go show Ridley what for, no matter what room he might be hiding in. We're going live on some Super Metroid Varia - Area/Boss Rando - Veteran - Mirrored.
