Markus Riva -- Forever

Riva returns for another shot at the crown, this time with a fairly basic pop track which I'm sure I heard the likes of many years ago. It's a worry when the best vocal performance is the recorded (or off-stage) backing echo, but overall I think this is actually a decent tune. It's certainly more fun that a number of the other entries.

Avéi -- Let Me Go

The staging for this is a bit odd. Are we in a forest? The way it builds is a good way to keep me interested, although there's something about it that I find incoherent. Not keen on the attempt at rapping midway, but at least it improves from there on.

24. Avēnija -- You Said

I greatly appreciate the experimental elements of this song. The distorted vocals and Kraftwerk-like rhythms certainly set this one apart from the others in the final. Half the song has a strong mechanical element to it, the other half more "organic". This feels like it could sweep people up or confuse them.

Sudden Lights – Aijā

I have mixed feelings about this one. The rhythms are interesting, and I really like the guitar work. The vocals seem to belong to another song though -- I don't get why it was either the singer on his own, or everyone but the singer. The track feels overly disjointed as a result.

Patrisha – Hush

Too much style over substance for my liking. Visually it's well put-together, but the chorus really lets the track down -- I prefer the verses and especially the bridge.

Artūrs Hatti -- Love Vibes

This song does a few things right: it has a simple, catchy chorus which opens the song, so you'll be able to sing along fairly quickly. That's probably where my praise ends though, because the track itself is fairly dated. I appreciate that it's written to appeal to a stadium audience. Unfortunately for Hatti, the contest is a lot more than that.

Toms Kalderauskis -- When It All Falls

My favourite part of this performance is the last minute, when the backing singers join Kalderauskis centre stage and they sing the last bit together. It's heartwarming for some reason. However, the song itself doesn't do much more than amble along amiably without leaving much of an impression.
