My 7yo nephew is obsessed with sharks. His favorite is the prehistoric Megalodon. For his birthday I got him an authenticated MEG tooth found by scuba divers off the coast of North Carolina.
Used #plasticity and #superslicer to mount it in a shadow box frame for easy grabbin’. Plus a touch sensitive LED night light because… why not?
I just tried #OrcaSlicer for the first time, I've just not had time to test it until now.
Because it was based on #PrusaSlicer, #SuperSlicer, and #Slic3r, I hoped that I could just import my PrusaSlicer config, but could not because it expected a .json file and PrusaSlicer outputs a .ini, but I might have done this incorrectly.
So I configure a "Generic Klipper setup" and copied the values by hand by comparing settings with my PrusaSlicer setup and a bit of experience and intuition.
My first resulting print, a custim part by me compared to the PrusaSlicer, was worlds apart. The finish was greatly improved with bridges requiring no supports, however it did print a bit slower, 28 minutes instead of 18 minutes, but this might still just be speed settings.
I like the UI, although I am more used to PrusaSlicer, and I especially love that I can access #Mainsail and #Klipper from within the app.

So how did I do this?
Well, as you saw in the videos, not all circular mocements were converted, and without this technique, none of them are. Why is that?
Well, the #Slicers we use like #Cura #PrusaSlicer and #Superslicer need to "slice" or models. This converts the 3D model from its original format to the tool paths of the printer.
These software are insanely complex, and they dont recognize circles easily. They basically just find the shortest straight path with the least amount of deviation from the original curve.
Some slicers do use arc movements, but it is better to do it in post-processing.
Post-processing is when a sliced #Gcode file is processed further after it was created.
The tool I use for this is #ArcWelder. You can either download and use a #Python script or use an #Octoprint plugin to do it automatically for you.

#Cura is just a mess. If you have all of the settings enabled, it is impossible to find anything. Also, the naming of features is way more logical in #PrusaSlicer and #SuperSlicer, Cura just has the weirdest names, so I can't find anything.

#PrusaSlicer is by far the best #Slicer that I've used in my 3 years of #3dprinting. My profiles are dell tuned and I have my entire workflow set up in it.
#Cura is very user friendly in the sense that it hides many settings. It's like the #TinkerCAD of slicers.
#SuperSlicer is the original fork of #PrusaSlicer, but I like the support I am getting now.

I just learned about #SuperSlicer, a skinned version of #PrusaSlicer and, wow. The fact that I can see the supports and the full paths the printer will take…wow again. I know Prusa does all this too but it didn’t have the config for the Ender3.
SuperSlicer can also be installed through #Homebrew on macOS.

It would be so great if I could define "forbidden areas" in #SuperSlicer. My Bed is damaged in the center (my fault) and it would be cool if the Autoplacer of SuperSlicer would not place EVERY SINGLE PRINT exactly there 🤣

So I’ve been trying to figure out what is the matter with #SuperSlicer (no real updates for a while, apparently the developer is busy with other things) and realized that #PrusaSlicer is taking PRs but not merging them - they’re all closed with notes like “thanks, added to private repository”.
Anyone know what is going on with #PrusaSlicer?
