HP is joining a growing number of #computing firms diversifying their #supplychains away from #China; HP is expanding production of some lines in #Mexico & #Thailand.

As production networks are now so complex & embedded in the Chinese economy, disentangling will take time; in other words this is not an immediate shift in overall production capacity.

But, what it does suggests is firms are worried about domestic & geopolitical issues in China & have started to act accordingly!

For some decades #China has been building its share of global #manufacturing (with its share rising to around a third in the last couple of years).... but the acceleration of economic development over recent decades has also (finally) seen #workers wages rising.

As #supplychains are often about capturing the advantages of low labour costs, its no surprise that more #corporations are starting to shift some production to other #Asian locations in response.

#AI #SupplyChains #Regulation: "As policymakers seek to develop a regulatory framework for AI technologies, it will be crucial for them to understand how these different supply chains work, and how to assign relevant, distinct responsibilities to the appropriate actor in each supply chain.
