And now it's coming to the end of my second in a row since I crossed the , here is "Big In Japan" by Alphaville for the theme . I am choosing this song because it popped into my head out of apparent randomness. Feel free to assign any cosmic significance to this event of your choosing.

Here is Information Society with "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" for

First thought: literally half of the funeral doom and post metal genres are in some way nautical themed (seriously, a perplexingly high percentage); how am I supposed to narrow this down?
Second thought: wait, there was that Sting concept album about the shipyard in his home town shutting down. It’s been awhile since I listened to that.

And in honor of Andy Rourke, whose death I found out yesterday, another vid -- this time from The Smiths. My favorite song of theirs.

If this works, then it's the absolute last one for tonight, I promise.

A few weeks ago I posted something about how I found a track on my computer that I'd been looking for for ages. It sort of fits with this week's theme, and it brings us back round quite nicely to my first post today. It's a chant to Yemanja, mother of the waters and an Orisha in Candomblé and other African diaspora religions.

I've not posted a Chris Knox / Tall Dwarfs song for a couple of weeks, so I'm making up for that now. For some reason, this really feels like it should be sung by Leonard Cohen.

One final , and a most literal , because this is a piece by AVAWAVES called Ocean, from their album Waves.

Specifically, it's a version they recorded remotely during lockdown. It's beautiful.

The Grand Theft Auto games are well known for their soundtracks, and the very best one was the Wave 103 radio station in Vice City. I still fire up the game sometimes to drive around listening to this!

With the theme being , I thought I’d share this. I’ll make a proper song post when it’s actually approaching night for me, but in the interim, enjoy some Scandinavian surf rock.

Going back to the new wave part of for some more .

Going to have a little bit of OMD. Gawky, perennially uncool, lovely OMD. Who doesn't want a bit of OMD? No, don't answer that.

OK, the last folk song for today I think. This one is from the point of view of a woman who has lost first her husband and then her sons to the sea. I find it very hard to get through this without getting teary.

"So they go outside on the raving deep
And they pray the Lord their soul to keep
But the waves will roll them all to sleep
And the tide will be their keeper."

Staying on the sailor theme, here's a folk tune. I'm most used to hearing it as a morris tune, but it can also be a song.

I'll Go and Enlist for a Sailor - Andy Cutting and Tim Harries, playing on a June Tabor album.

Staying with the northern seas for , staying on Sule Skerry too.

This is a truly gorgeous performance of The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry, by Julie Fowlis and the Unthanks. As beautiful a way to spend six and a half minutes as you'll find.
