I'm very proud of my primary bedroom #SurroundSound setup. I routed the speaker wire through the attic and then down the wall. There's a subwoofer under the window.
I positioned the #speakers so they point towards the bed, which makes for a good TV-watching experience, but the bed is too far away to game from, especially when I already have a hard time reading a lot of the text in #FFXVI.
The TV speakers sound good with #DolbyAtmos in the #PS5 menu but in-game they leave a lot to be desired. 🤔

I've struggled with #surroundsound and PC games on multiple occasions but I figured out some things on the topic this morning and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

For games that don't support it, Windows has a Speaker Fill feature that kind of mimics surround sound, which I enjoy, but for some reason it's not available for me.

My receiver has a multi-channel stereo setting that does the same thing but it wasn't working initially because the output device has to be set to stereo and not 5.1.

#240pTestSuite is a #homebrew tool for testing compatibility of an #upscaler with #RetroGames and adjusting a TV's colors and geometry. The ports to #NES, #GameBoy, and #GBA have been updated this week. Highlights of v0.23:

It’s rare that I ever feel a sense of loss when it comes to my #UnilateralHearingLoss. But as I’m sitting here watching the #PSVR2, realizing what I’m missing out on kinda stings. It feels almost like heartache from missing someone long since gone.

Today I learned that my #hearing / #AuditoryProcessing isn't getting worse - it's that #TV shows and films are now increasingly likely to mix their #audio for #SurroundSound, where the dialogue track is intended to come out of the speaker close behind you, so they tend to put it really quiet in the mix. Hence why I need to put subtitles on to follow dialogue on shows, but I never used to. Which is... bonkers, because who tf uses surround sound? Aren't we all streaming on our laptops?

My venerable Sony HT-RT5 #surroundSound system is finally giving into its well known hardware problem: onboard battery has died and it keeps forgetting it settings and the sub keeps disconnecting.

So, I’m looking to replace it. Need basic Dolby Digital and DTS, don’t need Atmos/DTS:X, but wireless surrounds are a must due to the room layout. Chromecast/Airplay is nice to have but not essential. Multiple HDMI again, nice to have but not essential

Budget under £400. Any suggestions?
