And then you notice they have an Amazon #Alexa. And then you notice a couple of internet-connected security cameras. You know that those home assistant thingies are corporate hot mics and employees have been caught recording and listening to people. You know that IoT cameras ship with notoriously weak security and get hacked all the time, with creeps watching in real time or posting revenge videos later. It's a tiny apartment, so there's no escaping the electronic ears and eyes.

That's what I assume. In which case I'm out of any server that doesn't defederate with them, which negates much of the value of Meta being interoperable...which is something we've been saying most of the social web should be.
There has to be some sort of workaround that blocks Meta's data vampirism, but allows interoperability...? I have had the same question about Tumblr, Flickr, et al.
