Nice, very hands-on paper on how to run surveys in market-research panels "Using Market-Research Panels for Behavioral Science: An Overview and Tutorial" https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/25152459221140388 @surveystatisticsandmethodology #surveymethods #survey #surveymethodology

I'm currently investigating which #surveymethods journals would be good for #economists, especially development economists to keep up with (or specific articles).
Current list includes JSSAM, Public Opinion Quarterly, J. of the Royal Statistical Society, Survey Methods: Insights from the Field, and Survey Research Methods. The first 2 are AAPOR pubs. The last 3 are European. None focused on LMICs tho.
Other suggestions???
The #ASA/#NSF/#BLS Senior Research Fellowship
Program is searching for two fellows. One position is focused on #statistics, #economics, or #BehavioralScience research, and the other is focused on #DataScience. Applicants must work at a college/university or a 501(c)(3) #nonprofit.
Applications are due January 9, 2023. See the full details at https://www.bls.gov/osmr/asa_nsf_bls_fellowship_info.htm

My paper "Harmonizing single-question instruments for latent constructs with equating using political interest as an example" was just published in Survey Research Methods: https://doi.org/10.18148/srm/2022.v16i3.7916

Just found out that Qualtrics automatically collects survey respondents' IP addresses. Qualtrics does not inform survey respondents that they do this, so I guess the responsibility falls to the person running the survey.
But I imagine that there are people who run surveys without informing respondents that they are collecting their IP addresses.

Question for anyone doing survey analysis work. Any good python/R package to help with Exploratory Data Analysis specifically on correlations between answers? I'm currently doing this manually - for each question of interest, checking whether interesting differences pop up between the general response and that of specific questions.
Example: If general answer to question 5 is split between options A and B is 65/35, but then when I look at how people answered question 1, which had choices 1,2,3 I noticed that those that answered 1 on question 1 have a 80/20 split on question 5, those that answered 2 have a 50/50 split, and so on...
I know question is a bit vague, sorry.
Thanks!

Polling science is actually quite robust and, if methodology is followed rigorously, can be quite reliable. However, there are huge problems:
1) If you model the population incorrectly your analysis will be wrong (good faith error);
2) bad faith actors can manipulate methods to get the numbers they want (for power);
3) bad faith actors can lie to pollsters; and
4) bad faith actors can report only the polls that support their narrative (for profit). #polling #quantitativeMethods #SurveyMethods

The project tries to provide guidance on thinking about ICCs, especially in places (e.g., post-conflict) where past survey coverage is sparse. Probably only of interest to a narrow group. But I started wondering whether there were well-known texts covering this that I had just missed because of disciplinary borders or my lack of formal #SurveyResearch training.
