Eric Smith has been diving off the Sussex coast since 1959 and has seen both terrible destruction and, in the past few years, hopeful regrowth. "Just give nature a bit of space and it will come back."

Popped down to the #beach to see the #shipwreck of The Amsterdam (sank 26 Jan 1749). Much of her cargo of textiles, wine, cannons and bullion still sits in the hold many metres below the sand. You can see the bow and sides and towards the rear an outer metal guard that was put in during an #excavation which helps with #preservation. Wreck only visible a few times a year at very low tide.
