The researchers found that the panels kept plants cooler during the day and warmer at night, and they held more moisture in the air. These less-stressed plants produced just as many jalapeƱos, twice the crop of tomatoes, and three times the amount of chiltepin peppers as those on a control plot.

MORE PEPPERS!

Especially on a windy day like this, drivers ought to comply with the 10 mph limit in the ag areas, to avoid stirring up dust.

High winds at a time numerous fields in the area have just been tilled or seeded. You can just see the topsoil blowing away...

OF COURSE there are going to be times you need to use trucks. I'm just observing that the majority of the time I see them being used in UC Davis research fields, they're not used for things that would require a truck. They're just being used to transport a human or two and some light tools. All of which could be done on cargo cycles. Sustainable Ag would prioritize doing that.

I've used my e-quadricycle to ride to the research fields as well as go down the rows. It has a cargo bay that can carry a lot of what people are using trucks to carry (tools, clipboards, harvested material). And it compacts the soil far less than an auto, esp truck does. It also churns up less dust. No chance of oil or antifreeze leaking onto the soil.

Have folks defining sustainable agriculture ever included on-farm transportation in the consideration of what's sustainable? I really think it ought to be included.

I was looking at deep ruts in our research fields, caused by autos (esp trucks) that most of the time are not used for necessities, but just for transporting one human around. Lots of soil compaction & driving gravel further into the soil just for hauling one human around.
