Pt 2: First, there's the profound sense of gratitude - for the animals life, for the high quality fat, protein, collagen, and vital nutrients its body will provide, and for the invaluable work they do on the farm, generating fertilizer and plowing the fields.

I also wonder how many people might become vegans if they had to feel the shudder of death required to have a pork chop on the plate.

One of my goals is to localize my #Mexican #cooking - instead of importing a bunch of stuff that goes into "real" #MexicanFood, especially during the winter, I want to get better at working with what grows here in the #PNW. Understanding the cost of food is important. For a lettuce the supermarket sells at £1 they probably pay the grower about 12p, and it costs the grower at least 11p to produce, with the risk of large batches being rejected because of gluts or minute standard failures, therefore costing the grower to produce and dispose of. Interesting video. Meal prep kits and food delivery service don't have to optimize for attractiveness in the store, so they can deliver slightly less pretty, but still very edible, ingredients whereas stores get a lot of #foodwaste from goods that aren't bought. But, that doesn't mean that those services are strictly more #sustainable than stores. The #LastMile problem can be avoided by avoiding #cars and eating less #meat is still super important.
