Anyone else having issues installing addons on #Thunderbird115 under #sway and/or #wayland ?
The popup to validate the install is unresponsive.

Any #sway users that have set up a bindsym that prints an emoji? (Ideally without using the clipboard)
My first approach has been #dotool https://sr.ht/~geb/dotool/
It looked promising first, since printing characters works fine. however it has problems printing emoji. I haven't had time to investigate further.
I am just wondering if a different tool would be better suited.
Has anyone used #ydotool (https://github.com/ReimuNotMoe/ydotool) to print emoji?

Having really only ever used #dwm as my #linux windows manager, am I right that #i3 / #sway just doesn't support dynamic window management (dock mode, monocle mode, floating mode, spiral, etc.) that dwm does? That it's pretty much just tiling only? I spent a small amount of time playing with sway and couldn't figure out how to get it to switch modes like this.
for those of us still on #windows - in my #mswindows days - I used #stardock #Groupy - https://www.stardock.com/products/groupy/ - I missed that on #linux , which is why #i3 #sway #hypr having tree based #tiling (which seems way more powerful than what groupy offers) is very exciting to me.
Getting that in #kde or #gnome would be a killer feature. Alternatively: getting a great out of the box tiling WM setup would be killer (minimal customization needed, good dock, good systray)

Regolith Desktop 3.0 Released with Initial Wayland Support
Regolith Desktop 3.0 has been released for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 23.10, and both Debian Bullseye and Bookworm. This update to the keyboard-driven, tiling desktop environment also introduces an alpha-quality Wayland-based session based on the Sway compositor (though this is only available if using the DE on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and above, or Debian Bookworm). Notable changes in Regolith Desktop 3.0: An assortment of other bug fixes, code cleanups, and performance optimizations are included in Regolith Desktop 3.0 too, so read through the full release notes if you need more information. Upgrading from an earlier version of Regolith? There :sys_more_orange:

#nwg-dock 0.3.7
- updated dependencies: gotk3, gotk3-layershell, logrus;
- added `-ico` string argument, to specify a name or full path to an alternative launcher ICOn;
- fixed searching icons in `org.*.desktop` files.
@codemonkeymike @PINE64 it is unfortunately a tad slow, which is why I absolutely had to use a WM like #sway to have a low memory footprint. It's also handy using a utility like cpu-power to force the clock speed to run higher 👍
I'm looking forward to having a similar type of setup on my #thinkpad #x1carbon 😎🤘 :nixos: :arch:
Have people here made good experiences with #wayland based #compositors in conjunction with #gaming, BESIDES gnome/plasma wayland sessions? Looking at #labwc #hyprland #sway #riverwm am not sure how well a #tiling wm will work with gaming. But as long as you can create rules to exclude gaming windows from tiling, it should be fine?

If anybod who is into #Manjaro and/or #SwayWM / #Sway: is changing the default terminal emulator really that hard? I’m out of my wits. 😵💫

Hello again world!
Finally got around to reinstalling #Gentoo on my main workstation. The last install was old enough that the ::gentoo tree still lived in /usr/portage!
Also ditched x11 (I'll miss you #i3), jumping into #sway land (might take hikari for a spin). The root partition is also xfs now instead of ext4 (check out https://social.treehouse.systems/@thesamesam/110626061537634143)
For the minimalist platforms (container/Flatpak host systems like #MicroOS or Fedora #Silverblue and #sway ) I have decided to write a Bash-only pinentry using rofi (I use the #Wayland version from https://github.com/lbonn/rofi) for the GUI part.
Its very early alpha version (more like a proof of concept) is on https://git.sr.ht/~mcepl/pinentry-rofi and I would be very happy if anybody pointed to me problems they have with it and/or even if they suggested some improvements.

OMG I finally got screensharing to work on #nixos and #sway. I accepted that it didn't work right under #wayland, even if everyone is reporting online that it is fine.
In modern linux fashion nothing threw an error or otherwise indicated in the usual channels what could not work.
My problem was basically reading up online how to do it, which was all outdated. #nixos can do it on its own! Use xdg.portal.* settings: https://search.nixos.org/options?channel=23.05&from=0&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=xdg.portal
Ah well, at least now I can pair program again :D
