Last night, I attended the tale of Sweeney Todd. It was my fourth attendance. I'm so old I saw the original production of this. #broadway #sweeneytodd

I don't know how I missed this, but the Blue Devils posted their entire 2015 Finals performance of Ink, including music from Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd, on their YouTube channel. It even features the K-Pop section which was removed from the official CD and Blu-Ray releases that year!

@davidjchavez Saw #Leopoldstadt, which I thought was fantastic, #Shucked, which didn’t have enough character-driven humor, even for a joke-fest of a fable. #SweeneyTodd was great, traditional but with several outstanding performances. My biggest disappointment was Kimberly Akimbo, which I disliked a lot. Too cutesy and way too dark at the same time. Too much unforgivable behavior by Kimberly’s parents, which is ironic given the other shows I saw.

First New York City #theater trip in nearly four years: #Leopoldstadt was a masterpiece. The #SweeneyTodd revival was very good, with outstanding vocals by Josh Groban and a daring, scene-stealing turn by Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett. Disappointed in the new musicals. My unpopular opinion is that I really disliked #KimberlyAkimbo. Too much unforgivable behavior and a story that didn’t work for me. #Shucked had too many weak jokes and not enough character, even for a silly fable.

We partnered with the brilliant artist Franz Szony on this short film, captured alongside our key art photography. Franz and his team built a full set on a sound stage, which was augmented in post with a VFX cityscape.

I particularly love the sound design, featuring animals growling in the background.

Getting this edit just right took months. It was worth the bloody wait.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (The Motion Picture Soundtrack).

I have that playing on the streaming service right now. Sweeney is such a favorite, both the movie and theatrical. Makes me happy. lol. 🪒⚰️

Playing with words in my head, I'm very fond of the term "motion picture." It sounds so cool, describes it so well, and seems retro and modern at the same time. Love of language.

Sweeney Todd, or the String of Pearls (1847), AKA The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, most famous of the 19th century penny dreadfuls, lurid crime and horror pot-boilers published in weekly instalments with cliff-hanger endings.

This is where popular fiction begins.

Wonderfully sensationalistic and gruesome, and delightfully breathless and overheated. Sweeney Todd is an epic villain.

I found this 666 page book of tales, #PennyDreadfuls: Sensational Tales of Terror compiled by Stefan R. Dziemianowicz. All authors we know…Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, Arthur Conan Doyle etc. plus two full novels. Mary Shelley’s 1881 version of #Frankenstein and #SweeneyTodd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I’ve never read Sweeney Todd and I’m definitely looking forward to this version of Frankenstein. #horror #bookstodon
