TPAC is a hybrid working event for the W3C. Some of us will be in person in Seville. If you're not, you can call in and participate remotely.

@ophiocephalic While #Meta is certainly trying to get their foot into every door they can, Ben Savage of #Meta has become a member of the "Social Web Incubator Community Group" (#SocialCG / #SWICG). Anybody can join, see https://swicg.io/

The group that actually worked on standards was the #W3C "Social Web Working Group" (#SocialWG, closed in 2018). That being said, the "incubator" is influential, for sure.

There's a session on #testing #interop in the #fediverse tomorrow morning (pacific time) of the W3C's #SWICG, with presentations from a few people including yours truly.

If you are interested in how to make the Fediverse more reliably interoperate, and in building a community around automating tests that can be applied to lots of fediverse apps, come attend? The meeting is open to all.

So a #meta rep has shown up in the #w3c #swicg that works on #activitypub. That’s a good sign in my book … it indicates Meta is serious implementing it, and it wants to be standards compliant in doing so.

Of course, no guarantees, but we take all steps in the right direction as a form of progress.

I advocate 2 locations as place-to-be for helping #ActivityPub and #Fediverse move forward.

Yes, the #W3C #SWICG for the AS/AP open standards tracks and mailing list discussion. But also the #SocialHub where #FEP's are discussed and a huge archive of dev discussion is collected.

For years they went hand in hand re:collab, then the SWICG turned inactive while the forum did not. Now looks like there's some split happening.

Status: designing a survey for the members of the #W3C #SWICG, the closest that #ActivityPub standardization has to a home at this time.
Trying to tickle out both what people think is most important/urgent to do, and where they are actually willing/able to do work.

I mailed @cwebber on their plans wrt to the #ActivityPub Rocks website in the context of having the site be the root portal to drill down into two parallel tracks of #Fediverse evolution, that should be complementary and cross-pollinating.

One being the formal track where #SWICG is involved, and the other which I call the #GrassrootsFedi where different fragmented initiatives may be a bit more tightly connected to increase cohesion and collaboration.

@helge FYI I added reference to the #SWICG mailing list where this is also discussed.

@bobwyman feels it is inappropriate to fork, but imho it is would constitute a soft fork only, contributing upstream. And it may be temporary as well.

Other than that having the spec repo's on #Codeberg focused on #FOSS rather than the #Github walled garden would be a boon. #GiveUpGithub :)

Meetings of the #SWICG need to be planned by the chairs of the group.

As a new member of the group I am writing a proposal for next steps which propably will be submitted by the end of this week. #ActivityPub #C2S will be one of the topics.
