I played a bit more with Numen (a cool voice control system, see https://numenvoice.org/). I can not only control my desktop, laptop, or linux mobile phone (#sxmo) with it, but also my house (lights, heating, media, etc) from all of these devices. Next I'll hook some mics to my raspberry pi's and control home automation from there.

All this on-device, no cloud connections, and definitely no "Hey Google", "Siri" or "Alexa"!

#Phosh as interface is wonderful if you like a "smartphone"-like experience.. so is #KDEPlasma...

#sxmo on the other hand is this wildly novel and experimental hacker approach to a mobile linux. all configurable, hackable, scriptable, resource-friendly. The one that fits my needs the best, and that i find the most exciting, esp. for #dailydriving

@lukeshu from my limited use case, #sxmo has been great. sxmo is a great choice if you need calling/sms/mms, web browsing, libreoffice, and development tools. those are essentially what i use on my pinephone aside from the occasional game or two. if that's all you need, i encourage you to give sxmo a try

@lukeshu on #sxmo at least, mms should be working with t-mobile, verizon, (at&t?) and their MVNOs. i'm on mint mobile, an mvno of t-mobile and mms finally started working reliably for me around january of this year. i encourage you to give it another try with biktorgj's modem firmware if you weren't already running that

I'd like to fire up developer tools for Firefox on the Android phone.

- Doing it right on the phone: No, fuck you, dev tools are desktop-only.
- Remote debugging over wifi: No, fuck you, wifi is insecure, you need a USB cable that you don't have with you. Even though you control the whole network.

And yet, #firefox is still the least user-hostile browser for #Android. Having non-crippled Firefox is 95% of the reason I want to switch to #phosh (or #sxmo?).

@drewdevault I can definitely see where you're coming from and I have similar experiences. I got fairly fed up with the fact that the modem often doesn't come up again after suspend on the pinephone. And if you disable sleep like I often do, you often find a dead battery. Despite all the great work of so many people, I'd have hoped for some more stability in the ecosystem by now.

I also took up a spare Android phone unfortunately, but I'm really fighting with its interface, I want my #sxmo !

I fixed my silly phone.
It's a Pixel 4A 5G, and there's dust under the main camera, which is something I use a decent bit.

I was doing tons of research into alternative OSes (because even de-googled #Android is pretty BLEH), and was considering getting a #PinePhone (not Pro) for #PostmarketOS & #SXMO, or getting a Pixel 3a XL for #UBports.

Some time ago I bought a #shiftphone #SHIFT6mq.
After following this https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/SHIFT_SHIFT6mq_(shift-axolotl) wiki and a lot of experimenting, I've installed #postmarketOS with #sxmo in "slot a" and #android ShiftOS-G in "slot b". This way I can dual-boot between #postmarketOS and #android. At the moment this solution isn't perfect, but I'm really amazed by the work that has been done to document this. A big thanks to everyone whos has worked on this :-)
