In an historic appearance, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese marched in Sydney’s 45th Mardi Gras World Pride Parade.

“People want to see that their government is inclusive and represents everyone, no matter who they love, no matter what their identity, no matter where they live,” he said. “We need to continue to argue for equality.”

“It's unfortunate that I am the first, but this is a celebration of modern Australia; we're a #diverse, #inclusive Australia and that's a good thing,” Mr Albanese said.

Australia's current Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, just became the first Australian Prime Minister to march in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

He marched with Rainbow Labor NSW, which is an advocacy group within the Labor party for LGBT equality.

Albanese has been marching at Mardi Gras since 1983 (today was the 35th time that he's marched with Mardi Gras), but it is the first time that he has ever done so as Prime Minister.

While your social streams and news may predominantly feature these people, presumably in speedos, please know and understand they truly are the minority. Sure, you may see images of hundreds or even thousands of them together. Still, they represent only a handful of the over half a million diverse people celebrating, all equally loved and welcomed.
