Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (also called The Lady in Gold or The Woman in Gold) by Gustav Klimt. Intended to be a distillation of feminine beauty, the work now unfortunately also represents the tragic story of Jewish dispossession at the hands of the Nazis. Reclaimed in 2006 by Adele's niece Maria Altmann after the painting was stolen by Nazis in 1941 following the 1938 Anschluss of Austria by Nazi Germany.
