This is a follow-up to my Jellyfin post. It generally works great, but the one thing it doesn't do out of the box is music genres (because Musicbrainz metadata does not include genres).
Enter beets (accurately calling itself "the music geek's media organiser", and I now have genres thanks to the beets lastfm genre plugin. One thing still lacking is artist images (they seem few and far between, unlike album artwork which is 100% spot on), but no doubt some further digging will find a solution to this (I'd be quite happy to use lastfm artist images, but the existing lastgenre plugin only gets genres from lastfm). Maybe I need to develop it myself, which may be fun if I had a little more spare time đ
Oh, and also, Symfonium is a great music player for Jellyfin on Android, I think my favourite so far (and apart from Jellyfin it also supports Plex, Emby, Subsonic and Kodi).
Today I cancelled my #Spotify subscription. I enjoyed the convenience, however after reading this article I was inspired to dig up my MP3 collection, set up a media server and put #Symfonium on my phone for offline tracks. Not easy but worth the effort! https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/sep/27/theres-endless-choice-but-youre-not-listening-fans-quitting-spotify-to-save-their-love-of-music
Installed #Navidrome and loving it so far. #Symfonium has been solid for a client, but I wanna see what else is out there.#Ultrasonic is next, but what is everyone else using?
