@classicalmusic today I read about Bruckner 9th Symphony in d minor, including the many recordings of attempted completions. The one Simon Rattle conducts with Berlin sounded fairly convincing to me. I will admit he isn’t necessarily my first choice of Beucknerians, but this was good enough that I will give the entire recording a serious listen. I'm not even a big fan of the Brahms symphonies, but somehow, partly through recent #CharityShops buys, I now find myself with six sets - Bernstein, Furtwängler, Chailly, Haitink, Sanderling, Sawallisch. Just finished listening to "L'Amant Anonyme" by Joseph #Boulogne (aka Le Chevalier de Saint Georges) and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! Despite my previous thoughts on his (in my opinion rather dull) #symphonies, this opera was simply breathtaking. I might reconsider his symphonies then. The music and lyrics were both beautiful and moving, making for a truly unforgettable experience. #opera #musicappreciation #LAmantAnonyme

Com que és hivern (bé, relativament), toca Tchaikovsky. La integral de simfonies de Pletnev és necessària. Escoltar música russa per orquestres i directors russos és tot un altre món. En aquest cas, tot i que la Patètica és l’obra mestra de Tchaikovsky i una de les millors simfonies que mai s’hagin fet, la simfonia Manfred sempre serà molt especial per mi per un motiu ben simple: és una puta xaladura. Oju amb l’orgue final.

I'm currently waiting for the William Steinberg/Pittsburgh Phil LP set of #Beethoven #symphonies. This was the set my mother had, growing up, so it is my unwitting touchstone for these great symphonies. I got a cheap set of Bruno Walter CDs when I was in my 20s, but when his interpretation differs from the Steinberg, I tend to like it less. @classicalmusic
