With the open beta of #SyncForLemmy I've observed tonnes of ugliness and it's sad.
Firstly, the quality of posts and the level of engagement on #Lemmy has dropped off a cliff, unless you include downvoting.
Lots of people are clamouring for algorithms.
People are repeatedly and habitually demanding the prices come down or they'll pirate it. The developer said the cost of takeaway. Some people want a lifetime of ad-free to drop from the price of two pizzas to less than a burger.
With the introduction of #SyncForLemmy, I found myself using #Lemmy again. If only Lemmy+Kbin are as active as Mastodon+Misskey+Firefish.
Damn, Lemmy is BIG mad over Sync charging to remove ads. #fediverse #lemmy #syncforlemmy
#fediverse #lemmy #syncforlemmy
@dcatdemon i just go with whatever suits my usage at that point
was on #jerboaforlemmy then #wefwef #voyager and starting on #SyncForLemmy at this point
not paying for any of them still
#syncforlemmy #voyager #wefwef #jerboaforlemmy
Watching some of the #lemmy folks turn on #syncforlemmy app after seeing the steep pricing for the removal of ads is amusing.
There is much to argue about the dichotomy of a proprietary app for an open platform when it comes to the business model. Could the app survive without ads and have donations instead? Does the goodwill of an individual developer sustain app development for an open platform? There are strong cases existing that support this argument.
An interesting turn of events.
Questions for Android #Lemmy users:
Did you use any other apps or web apps/browser to try Lemmy out before using Sync?
Or were you all waiting for it to launch.... because...reasons?
Adding adds to something and not being FOSS really sorta grinds my gears.
But eh.

Ooof. #SyncForLemmy launched on #Android and it shares your data with advertisers. Gross. That’s entirely counter to what the #fediverse is about.

I deleted #Reddit from my phone, and moved over to using #Lemmy due the past few weeks.
I started by using LiftOff as my Android client, but with today's release of #SyncForLemmy I've switched to this client, as it has a nicely polished UI.

Now that #SyncForLemmy is in open beta, every #Lemmy server is taking an absolute battering.
Hell yeah! #syncforlemmy dropped today! That missing piece from my soul has filled once again 💗
I am not yet convinced that #Lemmy will end up being a viable replacement for #Reddit, but the new #syncforlemmy Android client is now available for download on the Play Store. I really like it so far. It's by far the best Lemmy client for Android.
#SyncForLemmy is out now. Trust me, it'll make your Lemmy experience 10x better.
#SyncForLemmy is out on #Android. It's was the best #Reddit app and now it's the best #Lemmy app.

Was lucky enough to get in the internal beta test for #SyncForLemmy and its been so much fun. Honestly, testing software is one of the most fun things ever when the developers actually engage.
#Lemmy feels very different in #Sync though. It's interesting.
