Every time I use #Syncthing, I'm reminded of what a great piece of software it is. Serverless, reliable, (relatively) simple to use, and very fast! What more could you want from sync software?
@solene
I run the armv5 syncthing binary on my 32-bit PPC machine, I'm definitely going to check out the tuning for low resources section.
#Selfhosted applications like #Nextcloud really ought to think up a better way to handle #authentication.
Some sort of human-assisted interactive key exchange, like what #Syncthing and #Bluetooth do, seems better than using Let's Encrypt and a password, which (1) isn't exactly secure and (2) runs on somebody else's computer.

As with most things lately, I’m moving to older and opener tech. Trying out #syncthing + #vimwiki now. So far so good…
#inspiron #640m #backintime #ssh #syncthing
@hperrin IMHO that's not strong enough. Authentication should be mutual, with cryptographically strong keys, not passwords, on both sides. #Syncthing has the right idea here, as does #ssh.
#syncthing v1.24.0 has been released. With added IPv6 ULA support in discovery, #tailscale users should profit from direct connections.
@oliver If you also have a good bandwidth allowance on that VPS, how about running a public #syncthing relay server?
Mal sehen ...
Pretty disappointed with the available #subsonic clients (#navidrome is the backend) for iOS out there.
Just seems like I can't get the "just right" experience out of #Amperfy (missing Chrome cast), play:Sub (chome cast support is flaky), or #substeamer (no Carplay support).
Of the options, #Amperfy is open source but I'm not familiar enough with the apple ecosystem to running in XCode to even try to build a Carplay experience for it.
Considering #syncthing and #VLC at this point.
😿

@encthenet #SyncThing is a nice tool to synchronize files between devices. Easy to use, even on smartphones.
It uses #P2P #bittorrent protocol for sharing.
I'm sorry if this is getting repetitive, but I must reiterate:
#syncthing is so god damn cool
@smallcircles I'm so glad that I'm allowed to use #Emacs #orgmode in combination with #Syncthing instead.
I'll never ever have to worry about #privacy, #security or #vendorlockin again.

#emacs #orgmode #syncthing #privacy #security #vendorlockin #pim #cloud #OneNote #evernote #obsidian
Seems to be that way. Lots of moving parts, lots of complexity.
That is why #GotoSocial looks so exciting. It's almost as dead simple as #Syncthing.
@aiken Four!? Just the concept of four computers for work is insane, you must be *really* happy #syncthing exists xD
Why is there a ton of complex distributed #filesystem's and a bunch of p2p file sync solutions, and, of course, bunch of automagically sharding and object stores,
But not a single one well-maintained simple solution for one-way live filesystem #replication (that I could find)?
Is it just not what super serious "high availability" #devops people ever need or what.
I just want a live copy of everything I have on a server on another server. Currently using #Syncthing for that but even that feels like way too many failure modes for what is basically #rsync in a loop.
Thinking of building a basic thing that hooks into fanotify and maintains an append-only log of changes and hashes, and plays those back to the replica client over ssh or tls.
Can't help but feel I'm missing something crucial that would make it fail in a major way. Surely it can't be that simple.
#filesystem #replication #devops #syncthing #rsync
@astro I have to maintain and jump between four work computers and #syncthing is what makes that not (entirely) insane.
I'm on #Debian on this little thinkpad, and #Raspbian on my #Syncthing "server." (really just an always-on peer)
Debian was the first distro I really loved, all the way back in "Potato."
But for my slightly cursed work machine, I need bleeding-edge kernels *and* stability. :/
to everyone who needs to do file syncing between two computers: use #syncthing, def a contender for tool of the year
