New blog post:

Introduction to my first, incomplete draft of a description of the Understanding phase of my Social System Lifecycle. It borders on the technical so I thought I’d summarize it here:

🔄 In a non-systems world, A leads to B leads to C. In a systems world, everything is interconnected. Ditch linear thinking; embrace complexity. Your problem-solving will thank you.

🤔 Ever wonder why your system reacts differently than you expected? Look into 'o' labels in your system. These are the components pulling in the opposite direction.

Here's one of 30 articles on my blog that I've tagged . tutormentor.blogspot.com/2015/

Have you connected with Gene Bellinger in the past. I first met him on LinkedIn maybe 10 years ago. His work has inspired much of my thinking.

I've used cMapTools for my concept maps since they were introduced to me in 2005. It's free. Easy to edit and update.

⚡ When we rush to solve problems without accounting for delays, we're basically inviting chaos. Delays can make or break your system's adaptability.

I've just spent three hours on my workbook, while only writing one small section. The new Obsidian (@/obsidian@mas.to) Properties feature was helpful in re-organising things but meant some work to clean up my previous inconsistencies and figure out a smarter way to do what I want.

New blog post, a better democracy index.

Because the well-known indices like the EIU index suggest that some countries are almost perfect democracies, and think that the US hasn't become any worse in the last couple of years.

@qurlyjoe I think about this quite a lot. I'm still hopeful...but hope can be exhausting.

🔄 Ever find yourself in a loop of recurring issues in your dev team? It's not just a series of unfortunate events. It's systemic. Addressing only the surface won't solve it. Go deeper, apply Systems Thinking.

I do love a good mindset shift, it’s systems thinking in action. Especially when it applies to such an integral part of our modern lives.

Interesting paragraph which might shade some light on why we tend to prefer analytical solutions to computational ones. Besides the fact that analytical solutions feel like the ultimate ones.🙂

The performance of a system depends on how the parts fit, not how they act taken separately

New blog post. Why don't the mainstream media publish inequality statistics regularly?

Because they think we can't understand them, or because they don't want to remind us that almost all wealth gains are going to the owners of corporations and rental housing?

Our job is not what we do, it is what we enable others to do.

Whether by developing and operating useful software,
or by running a program in Marketing,

It is not our activities that define the job, but the capabilities we provide. To customers or the rest of the company.

Oxford Street’s decline is a parable for the UK

And for every city.
