Purchase of the day 📦
A 2 MB memory expansion card for the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop.
This particular laptop has no HDD, only hard-ram. The hard-ram is acting like a HDD as long as there's power from the mains, battery or resume-battery.
With the purchased card you can add additional 2 MB to the existing 384KB hard-ram. This reduces the usage of floppy disks significantly!
PS: It may look like a PCMCIA card, but it is not

Lucky me! I got a new old stock battery pack for my Toshiba #T1000SE and wow, it's working!
But I'll fix the nasty battery pack from my last post anyway.

Reading the manuals is a journey back in time. Not only because of the content, but also because of the printed word.

As autoexec.bat and config.sys are configured on the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop, I'm focusing on the internet connection. So I can find out what the big deal with this #bbs thing is 😎
My approach is to use a linux machine as a bridge to the network. The Toshiba is connected to it with a null modem cable.
On the software side #mTcp is handling the connectivity using a virtual ethernet card (etherslip). But more on that later...
At this time the serial connection is not set up correctly, so I have some debugging to do 🔍

Let's put the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop to the test, with a classic flightsim of the early nineties.

I think I should make a video to convey the feeling (slow display, flat sound). But hey, it's working and bringing back some good memories!

It's time to fire the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop up for the first time..
..and it's working perfectly!
Display, keyboard, ROM, etc.. all good 😎
Next I'd like to focus on the main- and resume-battery, but some parts are stuck in transit.

So let's start putting the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop back together - thats an easy task, only two types of screws, cool! 😎
As for the batteries:
I soldered the original cable&plug onto the new Real Time Clock battery and put it in shrink tubing.
The Resume battery is not ready yet, but i think it will start despite it (According to the manual, only the main battery is required for running)🔋🔋

Recapping of the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop is finished and all the other electronic components are looking good 💻🚀

After over 30 years, the "Citizen U1DA-00A" floppy drive of the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop needs some inspection.
As you can see, the belt is gone and I used a "Matsushita EME-263T" floppy belt as a replacement (eBay). I couldn't find the original belt, so i tried the identical(?) EME-263T - it fits and it works.
Additionally I did some cleaning and put a tiny amount of silicone grease on some of the mechanical parts.
Maybe I'll have to clean the heads, but that's a task for the future.

I removed the caps from the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop using a soldering iron. Luckily I didn't damage the mounting-holes during the process. A desoldering iron would have helped a lot!

Today i checked the display section of the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop.
The caps on the backside of the display are fine, but I noticed that the screws holding the display-hinges turn freely. Nothing a 2 component glue can't fix (and a rotary tool of course, if you take too much of it 🤦♂️)

A first look inside the Toshiba T1000SE Laptop:
RTC- and resume-battery(yellow) did not leak but nearly all capacitors do! Luckily they didn't damage the board too much, as often seen on those Toshibas.

End of last year i bought a Toshiba T1000SE, a 30 year old Laptop. It came in it's original box, complete with all parts and few signs of usage, wow! Of course, all batteries(3) are dead and you can't run it without the main battery pack.
Hopefully i'll get the machine back to life.
Quick-Specs:
9.54MHz CPU
640KB RAM (conventional)
384KB Hard-RAM
Toshiba MS-DOS 3.30 (in 512K ROM) OS
3.5" 1.44 MB Floppy
Next up: Take it apart and check for leaking capacitors/batteries.
