My name is Christy and use they/them pronouns (#enby/#agender). I live in rural so-called #Lunenburg in the #SouthShore of #Mikmaki/#Acadie/#NovaScotia. I’m a settler who grew up in the Ottawa Valley and my family are #FrenchCanadian and #Irish who come from Quebec. I identify myself with #socialecology, #ancom, #peasantanarchist, and #agrariansyndicalist movements.
I am a #PhD candidate in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, and I hope to finish writing my thesis this summer (#phdlife). My studies focus on #neoMarxist, #anarchist, and #decolonial approaches to #AgrarianPoliticalEconomy and #PoliticalEcology. I am specifically investigating historical patterns of #farmland distribution from 2000 to 2017 in #easternOntario through the use of property transfer records mapped using #QGIS. I am hoping to apply my method in Mikmaki next.
I am also a #garlic #farmer preserving as many varieties as I can. I have training in #agroecology, #organic, and #permaculture approaches to #horticulture. I help organize with my local chapter of the #NationalFarmersUnion and am interested in meeting other radical farmers, #landworkers, #homesteaders, #neopeasants, etc. who are interested in organizing for #foodsovereignty, #localfood systems, and #landback.
Other than all that, I am also fond of #tabletoproleplay, #fantasyliterature, #solarpunk #scifi, #bioregionalanimism, #baking, #wildcrafting, #foraging, #homebrewing, #fermenting, and #woodcarving.
