A wee bit of this afternoon: Using Curio 3 in something I thought I would use for weaving, but the curio is a bit thicker than I may generally want for . So making something more practical with it. Super slippy to knit with though! @fiberarts

Last product for a bit as I’m going to my school’s residential learning experience for and the loom isn’t super portable. This was supposed to be a 1” wide band like my prior one, as that’s a good thickness for keychains, but I ran out of black and had to scale back to just the center. Also I learned that while the variegated yarn is pretty, this repeat is too long to be useful for keychains. It’s pretty for the whole length though.

Oooh, I’m liking this pattern for my widest one yet! About 1” wide and 26 cards. A bit of effort to turn the cards each time tho. Lydia’s no 10 thread. @fiberarts

The Lady In Blue

This belt was inspired by an archaeological find from the 10th century in Iceland.

So much , only so many lanyards needed in the world! I made Ranger and Goon lanyards, which was really fun. But now am staring at a bunch of woven tapes about 3’ long and wondering if my friends need any brackets, collars, leashes, or keychains …. 🙃

I’m finding one of the really hard (and fun) things with is seeing how the colors I imagine actually pan out in a pattern. This one is one of the widest ones I’ve done so far with 18 tablets and I’m really liking how it’s coming out.

The Siksälä belt!

This belt is inspired by a find dated between the 12th and 14th centuries, found in Siksälä, Estonia.

I love how vibrant the colors are, and how much it makes a basic outfit stand out ❤️

It will be available for purchase in the online shop soon 🛍

A small weaving shuttle I quickly carved last night for my first tablet weaving project which I am starting this week!

Well, since I had the loom free, I decided to set up another warp 🥰🥰

In this case, it is a reproduction of a textile found as a decoration on the apron of a young woman, called The Lady In Blue.

The find is dated to the 10th century in Iceland ❤️

I think for , 3 variances need to be specified:

- If Z and S refer to thread slant or card slant (really no standard)
- If the cards are labelled clockwise or counter
- Whether the cards’ fronts face to the right or to the left when on the warp

I guess forward and back could vary but I haven’t seen it.

“Turning the Tablets” by T Jordon doesn’t specify all three; it only says the slanting part. Fingers crossed I’m warping this right. @fiberarts

Trying to find a source for hexagonal and octagonal tablets that I actually like. Might end up getting out the cutting plotter (like a Cricut but nerdier).

Today I have assembled a new warp on the loom ❤️💛💙

In this case, it is woven with a tablet weaving method.

It is a reproduction of a find found in the Siksälä region, in Estonia, and is dated between the 12th and 14th centuries 🧵

I love to boost posts with photos of textile work, but only if they have alt-texts.

Update: Period tablets of wood, bone, or horn would have been way better. The laminated cards got a bit mushy and bendy in the humidity of the forest. And it was generally a dry week too. Also, I wove a few days at the beginning but eventually put it away as I found I wasn’t grabbing it regularly.

TIL crochet no. 10 thread is significantly thicker than weaving 10/2 thread. I cut two similar lengths and kept picking them up with closed eyes and guessing which was thicker. Had about an 80% success rate. Started weaving with 10/2 and find a 10 card band is nearly 5mm thinner than with crochet thread, confirming my suspicion from what my fingers guessed.

More 10/2 thread is on the way because this is clearly the right thickness to make 10 card shoelaces.

One of my favorite things in the world is starting a new craft and suddenly recognizing why things are built or done as they are. Examples from recent include understanding why there’s a movable peg on looms as well as why inkle looms exist at all. I mean, it was always one of the things I loved about living history / reenactment work too.

@jonobie @fiberarts @weaving I don't knit, but I complex stuff. I feel that, but I've going back a dozen rows or more at times. Lots of practice at unweaving makes it suck less.

: I look at it wrong, and the entire fabric unravels with dropped stitches.

: I make a mistake three rows back and spend a half hour cursing while trying to unweave it.
