This winter I did some cool stuff with #Hnefatafl, an unsymmetric #viking board game that's been recreated. Our version forces the current player to make a capturing move if one exists. It's playable here: http://kyleburke.info/DB/combGames/forcedCaptureHnefatafl.html There is a deterministic path to victory on the Brandubh board for the Attackers in three moves. See if you can find it!
I've been having fun playing against the Medium "AI" on the Ard Rí board. (I lose most of the time.)
We showed that the general game of Forced-Capture Hnefatafl is PSPACE-hard: https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.06127

Pics from aagenielsen.dk, a website for historical #boardgames, where #Sámi Tablut is one of the games that can be played.
Board and piece design by me, based on drawings by #Linnaeus of a traditional Sámi #Tablut set.

The above to pics show two different examples of dujgu in #Tablut play.
The more common dujgu is where a single column or row has been left open in both ends by the attackers (here the g column).
Less common is the variant where the King is positioned to exit both a column (here g) and a row (here 3) simultaneously. Here accomplished by the move g2-i2 that opens the g-column by removing a defender and opens the 3-row by capturing an attacker.
