Ich glaube, ich höre mir bei Gelegenheit nochmal #Otherland von #TadWilliams an.

Das #Hörspiel habe ich als großartig in Erinnerung. Es ist eigentlich eine Produktion des HR mit zahlreichen bekannten Schauspielern als Sprecher.

Damals hatte ich unzählige CDs in MP3 umgewandelt. Bei den Öffentlich-Rechtlichen habe ich es zum Streamen noch nicht gefunden, genauso wenig bei Spotify.

So while grocery shopping at my local Dollar General, when I stumbled across this beast, priced at 3 dollars. Being a fantasy nut I couldn't resist and luckily had my personal change I've been saving just for such cases (both our essentials stores sell all their books for 3, but they usually are political or awful).
Didn't realize I already had Tad Willaims original series that goes back 24 years before this one. So now I'm reading those so I have context about what is going on in this one (got confused in chapter 2, but it's amazing!). The print is soooo tiny though, so reading glasses will have to be worn when I pick it up.
Title: The Witchwood Crown by Tad. It's Willaims. A lot of you probably know him. This is the first book of his new sequel series to the "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" series his wrote in 1988. What an epic find! Pretty chunky for $3!

TIL that there's only one known manuscript of #Beowulf (dating back to around 1000AD), and the guy who owned it in the 19th c, Thorkelin, thought it would be a good idea to make printed copies of the text.

Without that, we'd have no Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, and the trajectory of modern #fantasy would be completely different. Without #JRRTolkien, you wouldn't have the anti-Tolkiens: #RobertJordan, #TadWilliams, or #GeorgeRRMartin. No #WheelOfTime, #GameOfThrones, etc.
