So the #Broome #barramundi industry has benefited greatly from #TAFE training workers, yet current #aquaculture graduates have not recommended the course to friends and family. Sounds like they are underpaid and overworked perhaps? And now the industry is shocked that the sharp decline in enrolments means that the course is being cancelled.
Set up some scholarships. Build some adjacent accommodation like a FIFO camp. Create career paths. FFS.

Asking a big question, I would super appreciate any comments and super appreciate boosts etc.
For people who majored illustration in Australia. What university/TAFE did you go to? Would you choose the same knowing what you know now? What did you like and dislike about it?
My main thoughts are:
1. Uni of Newcastle
2. Flinder Uni/CDW studio
3. Melbourne Polytechnic

Many have noticed how #TAFE in Australia has been fucked up by consecutive neoliberal BS ideologies that include privatisation. So now we see a Vocational Education & Training sector eviscerated & dodgy private colleges offering point & click BS courses.
I worked in #TAFE for over 25 years in various capacities. I left in 2010 because I was getting embittered by teacher colleagues who couldn't see what was happening & didn't do anything to stop it.
Anyway, here's something I wrote about the whole thing on my blog. Please boost if you find it interesting.

From 2023, Canberra students will be able to access fee-free courses at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) as the Australian and ACT Governments signed a landmark 12-month Skills Agreement to address the current skills shortage.

The Australian Qualifications Framework is out of date. It's set up so vocational skills and knowledge have to give way to academic skills and knowledge. It requires people to change their grease stained shirts with blue collars for crisp white ones with at worst ink marks if they want to be taken seriously. It's a class barrier. Mastery of a trade should be recognised, as should research informed by years of practice of a craft. #teacher #auspol #TAFE #education #rto #University

In early December I am really excited to be starting a new role as Executive Officer of the Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
CNLC is a community house and registered as a large #charity with revenue in excess of $1 million, with 25 staff and 60+ volunteers. CNLC delivers #CommunityDevelopment and #environmental programs, and a range of adult education courses. Its primary focus is working with people who experience disadvantage, in particular new #migrants and #refugees and people with #disability.
While I’m looking forward to returning to leading a charity and a #grassroots community organisation, I’m sad to leaving my role as Campaigns Officer at the Australian Education Union Federal Office after five years. The work of the #AEU is incredibly important - shaping the future of millions of Australian children and young people (and also adults in the case of #TAFE) over generations. #PublicEducation provides hope and opportunity that many might otherwise not have. Public education was incredibly important in shaping my life and I will remain a lifelong advocate for the work of the AEU and our sister unions globally.
PS: Charities don’t have much spare money, so I’ll be calling on people I know for favours. Thanks in advance 🙂!

I've been here for roughly a week, so it's time I did an #introduction post.
I'm Trent, I live in the #GreaterHume region in #NSW #Australia.
From a young age I was keen on #radio as a career, I also got the bug for #technology after discovering #computers & #dialup #internet at primary school.
Life took another path in 2003 as I left #highschool early & worked on study at #TAFE along with finding work + running my own #business specialising in ICT for rural/regional clients.
With at least 5 years of life under my belt, I pushed on that interest for media and got my #broadcasting diploma in 2007 then shortly after embarked on an almost 13 year full time #commercialradio career.
During this career I also picked up a #volunteer gig looking after a community radio station, which I still retain today.
After working through company changes, floods, fires & a pandemic...the last one sealed my fate as I was made #redundant.
Following a 10 week pause in 2020, I joined an organisation to work on a new project to help #regional #rural #remote #Australians provide support with telecommunications independently, celebrating my 2nd work anniversary yesterday.
I like to dabble with tech in my spare time, I run some #webhosting services and I love to take photos with #digitalslr, #mobilephones and #drones.
P.S: I like #Coffee very much

Hello everyone! For my #introduction - My name is Stavros and part of the #Twittermigration. I am a retired Teacher. I started teaching at High Schools English Lit/ESL and a little later became an English/Communications Teacher for #TAFE. After a while I became an Institute Multicultural Education Coordinator for a large TAFE Institute where I developed special education programs for #migrants & #refugees that incorporated other skills. These were called English for Specific Purposes. I did this for over 20 years. While working in this area I also got involved in human rights actions that included an amazing journey to #Nauru. You can see stuff about these actions in my blog. I love to #Write and take #Photographs. I'm also interested in the #ManticArts such as #Iching and #Astrology. You will find posts about my interests in my blog. I hope to meet some cool people here. I already have in such a short time.

Little Motorbike froggo (Ranoidea moorei) resting inside a Many Spike Orthrosanthus (Orthrosanthus polystachyus) plant.
So cute! 😊❤️ Between all the pretty flowers, Joe the master thief crow and other little surprises, this campus can be such a magical place. 😊
