I like the idea of #PortfolioDay. It has a huge range of skills and techniques on display! Here's my contribution: I'm a visual artist who specialises in #AbstractPainting, #PortraitPainting, and #Taideryijy (art woven wall hangings also known as #rya). I'm currently working on #FirePaintings for an upcoming solo exhibition in Oulu, Finland. Oh, I also like to paint cats, microscopic single-cell creatures, and landscapes.

Finishing up a #taideryijy I started as a demonstration piece for my kids' school spring fair that was last weekend. I got completely caught up in the prep for the event (including other organisation tasks for it) that I neglected my other projects.

I had a lovely surprise last week - my favourite gallerist has returned to the Oulu art scene and invited me to show two of my knotted wall hangings in the opening exhibition. TaideOulu has a new bright space to showcase art from around Finland.

In a move I did not see coming when I started #taideryijy weaving, I stumbled into #datavisualization. I have a collaborative textile art and mechanical engineering project with Aalto University Professor Sven Bossuyt (that I hope to get funded). Currently a sample of it is at the #AaltoUniversity exhibition Dialogues, that presents collaborative projects involving textile development and innovation with various science fields.

Now that I've finished this mini ryijy, I can't decide which way is its "rightway up". It's like a small snippet or sketch from a larger composition, so I know in theory which way is up, but it doesn't necessarily feel right. Which way, do you think it should go?

I got ten more rows in of the tiny #taideryijy (rya rug). The living room ceiling light is not the best light for this job, but I don't have a work table in the studio...nook. Some sunshine would help.

The #taideryijy #artexhibition "Liekeissä" is wrapping up in four days at Taidekeskus Mältinranta in Tampere, Finland. It has been important for me to have a public space to show the #weaving project that I've been working on for over a year. I designed and hand-knotted this rug series (up to eight rugs so far). The #abstract designs were inspired by wild fire.
