The house is super-comfortable, in a quiet residential street, with arguably far more space than we could ever need. We're just south of the city centre, 2 minutes walk from a fabulous (and cheap) barbecue restaurant, 3 minutes walk from the market, and 6 minutes over the bridge to Anping.
On top of that, our landlords are a total delight. It's so very good to be here.

810 followers · 495 posts · Server zirk.usStopped by the temple of the City God, drawn by the sound of drums and gongs. The man outside invited us in. Inside a spirit medium or 童乩 (tóngjī / tâng-ki) was engaged in ritualised self-flagellation.
It was beautifully choreographed, brutal and strange. Everyone was welcoming, but it felt intrusive being there, so we left soon after.
Particulary now, during ghost month, the religious life of #Tainan is incredibly rich and multi-faceted.

The response was overwhelming. 200+ likes, and countless direct messages and comments later, I think we've found somewhere.
On the taxi to the rental place, I chatted to the driver. Turned out he's seen my post too. "Oh, cool!" he said. "You're the foreigner who wrote the long post about looking for a house!"

Just got confirmation for my next trip to #Taiwan, known as a sovereign #country and a beacon of #freedoms and #democracy in #FarEast - and most definitely NOT a province of #China.
Flying out on September 23 and back to Switzerland on October 15th, so it's going to be a full three weeks.
Message to #Zhongnanhai: please postpone any possible invasion plans accordingly.

Between us, we had two different (and abundant) platefuls of fried rice, plus a 蔥蛋 scallion omelette, all for around 200 NT$, or US$6.30. And I can confirm that the marketing of this place is in no way misleading.
