The takahē, formerly known as Extinct Borb, is back in New Zealand ❤💚💙
This particular model boasts a bright red beak and stands on green grass for contrast, boasting a blue dress in this, duh, RGB image.

Prehistoric bird returns to New Zealand: A sign of hope for conservation? 🦉 💥 🇳🇿

The best photo of a #takahē I've ever seen.
(The big blue ball. That one.)
(seen on Bluesky but I couldn't find the post linking to it when I scrolled back looking for it.)
Az első párokat most eresztették szabadon ott, ahol őshonosak voltak. https://qubit.hu/2023/08/29/visszatert-a-vadonba-az-uj-zelandi-takahe #visszatelepítés #új-zéland #tudomány #takahe #madár

"That streak of colour was the #Takahē: a large, #FlightlessBird, that was believed for decades to be extinct. Eighteen of the birds were released in the #LakeWhakatipu Waimāori valley, an alpine area of #NewZealand’s South Island last week, on to slopes they had not been seen roaming for about 100 years."

We plan to increase the #takahe population in the Greenstone to about 40 individuals over the next year. We’ll still need more sites! Read more here: https://t.co/ZaWXjNoIoh #conservation 📸 Deidre Vercoe
A growing #takahe population means there’s an urgent need for new sites. Predator control has made the Greenstone suitable, but time will tell how well takahē will do there. We’ll closely monitor them to check on progress. https://www.doc.govt.nz/news/media-releases/2023-media-releases/new-wild-home-for-takahe-on-ngai-tahu-whenua-in-otakouotago/ #conservation 📸 Glen Greaves
There’s a new wild population of #takahe in NZ! With Ngāi Tahu and supported by Fulton Hogan we’ve released 18 takahē to the Greenstone Valley near Queenstown - a site where they haven’t lived for over a century. Here’s the last pair heading off to their new home. #conservation
@musicmatze #mastodon (and everything else in the ecosystem like #takahe #elk #gotosocial #tusky ) needs to implement support for Articles so that a Mastodon user can follow a #writefreely user.

Is there another #activitypub server implementation (besides #takahe) that supports multiple domain names in the same instance?
I don't think #mastodon #gotosocial #pleroma support it.

A Fediverse Update
It’s been well over six months since I dived headfirst into Mastodon and ActivityPub and both Bluesky and Threads are now rising in popularity, so I thought it was time for an update.(...)

Hättest Du da Lust was zu schreiben @kromonos ?
#django folks, I’m curious. Is there a package that is a generalized implementation of ActivityPub that can hook into existing models? Kind of like how Django’s syndication feed framework works for building an RSS feed out of existing data? A lot of what I see is more fully featured, like someone building a whole social network client (i.e. the excellent #Takahē).
It’d be neat if I could make a model “followable,” using a signal to push it out to everyone’s feeds.
@toddsundsted I think focusing an interoperate-a-thon on some of these smaller server projects like #Ktistec, #SNAC, #Bovine, #Kbin, #Takahe etc would be great. I wonder what the best format would be? Set aside a weekend sometime and set up a little global event for it maybe?
