An interesting discussion on #RNIB Talking Book podcast today on the topic of AI narrators. Iโm still conflicted about this. I donโt think AI could ever provide the emotion or range of voices a human narrator brings to an #Audiobook, but so many books never get recorded. Is there room for both, perhaps with different pricing? Perhaps we could pay a bit less for a book with an AI narrator?

Personally I would call such individuals: Ignorant, Arrogant, Prejudiced Dingbats or SCUM!
It took YEARS for RNIB to get #TalkingBooks going.
It is ONLY because they are now so mainstream that they are affordable.
I am #sighted & #HardOfHearing so cannot use them, I need #Subtitles / #CC #LiveTranscribe #RelayUK - not a #ScreenReader.
Do such people think #AltText #CamelHump #accessibility are Woke?

I recently discovered the Orphan X series of books by Gregg Hurwitz which are, thankfully, available in audio format from the #RNIB Reading Services library. Fast-paced adventure stories which really held my interest. A bit Equaliser / super-hero, but very enjoyable. Looking forward to working through the series. #Books #TalkingBooks #Reading

Current talking book: "Death and the Arrow" by Chris Priestley. (Borrowed on Libby/my library.) Young adult murder mystery set in early 18th century London. Very likeable hero and lovely historical detail, and I'm enjoying it immensely. Has CWs for period-typical, plot-relevant racism (portrayed suitably negatively), colonialism (ditto), and classism (ditto). #TalkingBooks #Books
