"Xiao Hong led a rough, itinerant life & died a refugee in Japanese-occupied Hong Kong at age 30. Her writing career spanned less than a decade, but her works have stood as models for later generations of writers. A central theme in her work was the fate of women under patriarchy."

Bi Gan's sophomore effort, Long Day's Journey into Night, after his phenomenal debut Kaili Blues, doesn't disappoint in terms of ambition, technical prowess and sheer ecstatic beauty. I've never experienced anything quite like it in an immersive movie going experience. If the 40 min take in Kaili took your breath away, just wait until you see a continuous hour long 3D scene in the later half of the film.
