@zeborah I just found this paper on wood ducks eating acorns where they looked at whether the ducks preferred acorns with lower levels of tannins. And, no, they didn't.

"Acorn selection by female wood ducks seemed independent of tannin concentrations in acorns" and the ducks may be "physiologically adapted to tannin levels in the acorns". There was no "major decrease in wood duck body mass despite abundant consumption of willow oak acorns".

Step one: fold a thrifted cotton sweater into a basin, layer it with all the rusty things from the rusty things bucket, spray it all liberally with vinegar water, dump in the remainder of the dirty jar of dye-contaminated iron water, throw yesterday's leftover tea on top, and sprinkle in a bit more vinegar for good measure.

Step two: wait.

I'm mentally nitpicking and finding fault with almost every single toot I'm seeing and have been for like 2 hours. Why am I feeling so contrary?

I think it might be that lunch . Beer makes me feel great for an hour and then like garbage for the following six. doesn't do this but and do, red much more than white. ?

Living on acorns alone can be rough. Body weight change shown here for mice living on acorns alone (from day 0 onward) either after acclimation to acorns (top panel) or with no acclimation (bottom panel).

The difference appears to be due at least in part to acclimation to tannins, as the acclimated group produced more tannin-binding salivary proteins than the non-acclimated group.
