Op haar negende kreeg Kristin een gitaar van haar vader, als ze 11 is scheiden haar ouders en haar moeder trouwt met de vader van haar beste vriendin #TanyaDonelly. Op hun 14de starten ze de band #TheMuses op in 1981 veranderen ze het in #ThrowingMuses wanneer nog andere schoolvrienden er bij komen oa #DavidNarcizo.
In 1986 zijn ze de eerste Amerikaanse band die tekent bij het Engelse platenlabel #4AD, en op hun eerste Europese zit
