My elder brother brought his tape cassette recorder home when he returned from Australia and you had to fast forward or rewind the tape to get to the song you liked. The tape counter was invaluable until you accidentally reset it 😫

Bought new in a music store around year 2000.
7in reel, 1800ft of 35 microns tape.
96 minutes of playtime (4 tracks at 7.5in/s) : 48 minutes in each direction.
Normalized duration of 90 minutes.
2 tracks at 7.5in/s : 48 minutes total playtime.
2 tracks at 15in/s : 24 minutes total playtime (it's not very long 🤨)

Boite et bobine de MAXELL UD de 18 cm (7"), longueur 550 m (1800 ft), épaisseur de 35 microns, durée 96 mn en 4 pistes à 19,05 cm/s (durée normalisée à 90 minutes). Donc par sens, ça fait 48 mn en 19,05 cm/s.
En deux pistes ça ne fait qu'un sens donc 48 mn aussi à 19,05 cm/s et si on déroule à 38 cm/s ça ne fait plus que 24 mn 🤨

Since there was a bit of interest in my latest tape machine addition, here's the first tape deck I bought a few months ago. @aradiogurl helped me to get it running. This thing is heavy as hell and built like a tank so it's not surprising it's still playing tape 50+ years on. 😻
