#music #taptempo #drummachines In my life I've owned 4 drum machines, A Roland TR-303 Drumatix, a Korg DX10 (??), an Alesis HR16 (not the B) and my current beast-of-beats, an Alesis SR18. It has every feature a musician could wish for, even a bassist. "Roxanne" anyone? I DON'T HAVE TO ASK NOW< DO I? I HAVE AN SR18! 😂😂😂
Every feature except one - live tap tempo. You can start with a tap-in, you can't tap tempo continuously, live through a song. Were the engineers at Alesis not musicians? I mean, this is a 21st century drum machine, it has swing. It's not the 80s, we know that timing is, well, flexible, right? We know that the most "clock steady" dummers actually swing like a hanged man on a windy day, right?
A 100 more lines of code for live tap tempo couldn't fit on a chip with expanded memory for the time? A RISC processor, like it was built on, couldn't spend a few more microseconds timing tempo taps? Was tap-in really the best way to human clock the beast?
As proof of my answer in the negative, I submit The Beatles' Come Together. There's an iso track out there on the toobs of Ringo's drums. If you rip that toob and drop it into an empty Logic Pro X project with the Tempo Correction turned on, it becomes the master track. and here's the cool thing...
1. The tempo starts around 88,
2. it finishes around 160
Now I have to build a MIDI tempo tapper GRRRR! 🤬🤬🤬 Like I need another bloody electronics project!
