Reminds me of other favorite films and how they are more impressive when one hears the stories behind their making.
Apocalypse Now and Fitzcarraldo come to mind. Have you seen Fitzcarraldo? It's worth viewing.
I look forwarding to watching more Trakovsky movies in the future, although there are not many.

Also had some really annoying women next to me that kept pushing my arm off the arm rest while allowing her elbow point to intrude into my space.
The guy she was with was also filming on his phone for the first 10 minutes & I was kept distracted by the light in my peripheral vision

Der Film ist fantastisch, insbesondere cinematographisch!🤩 Großartig auch die Schauspielenden und die Dialoge.

Doedd y dysgwr ddim yn nabod y ffilm, ond wnaeth e sgwennu'r teitl yn berffaith yn ysgrifen redeg Cyrilig. Na'r fath stiwdent sy gyda fi.

Alors c'est beau. Mais c'est LONG. 3h20, dont 1h de moines orthodoxes qui déblatèrent sur des questions philosophiques teintées de #Bolchevisme pour passer la censure, au milieu de fous, de libertins, et d'alcooliques sans jamais peindre la moindre icône.
L'arrivée des Tatars nous réveille un peu et quelques scènes sont splendides (la folie du fondeur de cloche) mais je touche aux limites de ma cinéphilie

I've heard it suggested that Christian Orthodox #icon painting has as a framing understanding that the icon allows the light of the Divine to come through itself to us.
(Tarkovsky's second film was *Rublev,* about a famous Russian icon painter [b. 1360].)
I've often had a sense that #Tarkovsky understood his films that way — as vehicles to have light come through them to touch us.
