Long weekend is over. It's that time of the year when the heat won't go away, rain won't start and everyone's grumpy, knackered and over everything.
So as an antidote to the dry, drying everything outside a lot of reading was done:
Started out with the cosy: Antiques and Assault by Rodney Strong https://www.austcrimefiction.org/book/antiques-and-assault
Then the 3rd in the Judi Westerholme series Mad, Bad and Dead by Sherryl Clark, a series which I really like a lot https://www.austcrimefiction.org/book/mad-bad-and-dead
Then Island of Secrets by Patricia Berwick the first in this series I've tried https://www.austcrimefiction.org/book/island-secrets
next up was a bit of a change of scenery with a couple of short stories by Stuart MacBride featuring my all time favourite DI Steel - Partners in Crime https://www.austcrimefiction.org/book/partners-crime
and finally started Winter's Death by Shauna Bickley https://www.austcrimefiction.org/book/winters-death

Finished watching 'Magpie Murders' on TVNZ+. If you like your murder mysteries the English way, with villages, flashbacks to a nostalgia-soaked 1950's, and twists aplenty, you will enjoy this six-part series. And Lesley Manville, who is plays an editor turned amateur sleuth, is very good. Just a bit twee for me. I'm more of a tartan noir fan myself, preferring more 'grit'.

My Sunday is mostly listening to the cricket and reading 1979 by Val McDermid. Probably should be weeding...

Impressed with the wee write up of the 2020 #UCUStrike by Val McDermid in her book Still Life.
Gives voice to a mid-career academic seeing the impact of changes in working conditions on those just starting out.
2022, and we're still...
