Photograph: Ceremonial throne of Princess Sitamun Location: Egyptian Museum, Cairo Date: April 2023
Sitamun's throne was found in the burial chambers of her maternal grandparents.

The view of the right arm-rest depicts the goddess Taweret in the center, and two views of the god Bes (one holding two knives, the other a tambourine).
Taweret and Bes were both household protectors.

Taweret is now part of my shrine and i will ask her for protection for my sister's pregnancy.

I could've bought a finished figurine but i wanted to try my hands in a bit tinkereing again and weave some good intent and love into the statue.

I used a hippo figurine from Schleich and crafted a hopefully beautiful statue for her.

My first offering today is milk.

My sister is pregnant (🎉) and i want to honor Taweret and ask for her support.
I never directly worked with her.
What do you all suggest she might like in terms of offerings/prayers?

Let's talk Taweret.
Taweret may look familiar to you. She is the hippo headed goddess associated with the protection of women and children. Hippos are known to be fierce mothers, keeping threats away from their young. Even male hippos are this way. So hippos are connected to the protection of children in general.
Back to Taweret. Her most common depiction is that of a hippo with a wig, holding two tyet knots. Her mouth is open to show off her big teeth and express her ferocity. She is often paired with Bes, another deity of protection for children, but her other consorts can include Sobek and Set. Set can take on a hippo form in his role as defender of children.
Taweret was a household deity, being worshipped outside of the temples more often than in the temples. She was called upon by the masses as protecting and caring for children as well as insuring healthy pregnancies were everyday population problems.
Today modern practitioners still call upon Taweret in times of need. For strength, health, and protection. For myself, I had both a Taweret and Heqat statue in my delivery room when I was induced and gave birth to my daughter. My Taweret statue continues to look after my daughter as it stays in her room. She whispers to it every night to look after her.
