Leave it to SCOTUS to remind the adherents of Pride Month that every June for the rest of their lives will be met with fear. It's not Obergefell, the one everyone was fearing, but a definite warning shot: religion in the United States matters more than civil liberties.

I can see the next twelve months of court decisions and legislators in red states perverting this to excoriate LGBT customers from all business as a result. For those who still doubt it -- look at today and see that the trans panic isn't enough: they are coming for ALL protected groups.

When Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, a common complaint was, "but the church helps the poor!" Studies of medieval records found that only 6% of funds went toward helping the poor. Most of it went to construction projects and to support the lavish lifestyles of church leaders.

I think of this frequently in the context of taxing churches.

The priest (whom I had loved as a person) said to "his flock"..... I can't tell you who to vote for (2008 during Obama's first run) but...."I cannot in good conscience cast a vote for someone who supports abortion. ".....Duhhh...that's telling them who to vote for.
