I did the IRS screening for the free tax prep programs and frankly, I'm sure they're fine but didn't inspire huge confidence.

On recommendation from someone here on #mastodon, tried TaxAct and I was very pleased. And luckily because of my (now) pretty simple tax situation, I think I'll be able to file for free.

Thoughts on US tax prep? I've used TurboTax the past few years but really don't like their attitude (it's MY information, not theirs) & my taxes are simple enough that I can handle doing it myself.

Maybe wait until the IRS free filing fillable forms are available?

I DO qualify for using a free-filing partner site, but I dunno... some of them look a little sketchy. I'm inclined to just do them myself. I have past returns from professional tax prep to work from.
