Thankfully a very uneventful night in Port Hedland, with wind gusts recorded at the airport less than 70km/h. Not sure what it was right on the coast. Really feeling for those in the hit zone. #tcilsa #cycloneilsa is still at cat3 strength closing in on Telfer.
I’m sure there will be attribution studies to come, but it’s widely accepted that global heating is leading to less frequent but more severe tropical cyclones. Which is probably irreversible and sucks, in short.

Overnight, #CycloneIlsa set a ten minute sustained wind speed record of 218km/h. That’s the hardest the wind has ever blown (and been recorded) ever in Australia.

Tropical Cyclone Ilsa is now expected to cross the coast at Pardoo at a category 5 system! 🌀‼️
She is still currently cat4. It's a small destructive core, but destructive winds will still be felt in Port Hedland. #tcilsa #cycloneilsa @BOM_WA @abcnews

Severe #TCilsa with pressure now confirmed in the low 940's hPa going from wind gusts of 213 km/h to 24 km/h in a heartbeat as the eye moved over Rowley Shoals, off W.A.
