While Metro #Nashville public schools are trying to fill a record number of teaching positions, especially in #Math and #Science , early voting has begun in the Mayoral race run-off between #FreddieOConnell (who sends his kids to the same public school he went to) and #AliceRolli (who sends her kids to a religious private school, many of which teach #CreationScience in #Tennessee).

Los Angeles schools Supt. Alberto Carvalho says this:
“We’re back at a point — based on high levels of vaccination, therapeutics available and children’s higher resiliency than most — where if a child is mildly sick — no fever, just maybe the sniffles — it is OK for them to go to school,” he said. “There are ways of mitigating against that: some good meds, a mask and monitoring.”

Of course no mention there of the teachers, classified employees, and everyone else whose an adult and isn't as resilient but is required to make the school run.

Then we get to the meat of it:
The superintendent also noted a financial impact. If the current 90% daily attendance rate rose to 95% — which it was pre-pandemic — the result, he said, would be $300 million more in state funding, which is largely based on attendance.

I get all schools are underfunded, this is a fact. This isn't for any health concerns or anything else, this is for cold hard cash. So that's it folks, just like conservatives wanted the elderly to keep going to work and die gracefully as sacrifices to the machine of capitalism... This guy figures teachers should take the same risk, because, you know we're not in a teacher shortage or anything. Maybe this is one of the reasons.
