Narrative is indispensable in the #history classroom, so let's talk about ways to deploy it better. Here's my recent attempt (ICYMI) to help students think about how a story makes an argument—and vice versa. https://bluebook.life/2023/04/22/storytelling-and-interpretation-a-classroom-activity/ #histodons #TeachingHistory

I was discussing historical archaeology last night with my daughter (a teacher), which reminded me of one of my favorite student papers: an in-depth study (literally) of the layers of history revealed by a pothole on Benefit Street in Providence. #historicalarchaeology #teachinghistory #Providence

@jbf1755 tbh I think few profs can pull off being that listen-able speaking from a podium without using blackboard / whiteboard / slides / videos / visuals at all. Just pure storytelling. Most of us (self included) feel like I have to pace, tap dance, use multimedia, incorporate discussion or turn-and-talk, just to maintain "engagement."

Needing a couple videos of a college-level history course, for my Teaching History students to deconstruct and analyze. There are surprisingly few posted online. I'll probably use one from @jbf1755's excellent Yale Open Courses American Revolution -- as a masterclass in lecturing. (Joanne, how many students were in that lecture hall, more or less?)
