Here are two of Huginn's and Muninn's babies, now quite large and doing some exploring on the ground below their nest (their parents are in a nearby tree, and two other siblings are still under the overpass).

They are keeping cool by using "hilarious fluttering" (opening their bills to "pant" and rapidly cool the air they inhale).

I spent some time again catching up with Huginn's and Muninn's not-so-baby-anymore ravens today (which we've named Azarath, Metrion, and Zinthos). Azarath is, we think, the firsthatched, and is a particularly funny, talky, precocious wonder bird.

In these pictures, e and eir siblings are all listening to Mom and Dad (who are out of the frame, but just off to either side of the underpass keeping an eye on the adorable void trio and gossiping with them). #TeamCorvid #Raven #Nest #Oregon

"When shall we three meet again?"

My favorite baby ravens are really growing up fast. When I passed back under their nest on my way home (after hiking the lakeside trail), they had all vanished, along with eir parents (presumably off to learn new spells).

Just checked up on the baby ravens and they are not only getting So Big, they are learning to fly!! One was off with eir parent (no photo because too easy to startle there), while the other three were in the nest, testing their wings and just being gorgeous good birds.

This is one of the #raven parents I've been watching, who's just landed on this slope alongside the concrete wall of the nearby highway overpass where e has eir nest. I believe he's just had a bath.

In addition to tracking bridge trolls this afternoon, I also spied on "my" raven nest. The raven siblings are growing up! Catch that look on the face of the baby raven in the back while eir sib turns eir head practically upside down trying to cool off. 😑😂

The raven chicks are getting bigger! Here they are having a family sing-along with one of their parents*.

*Kidding. Like many birds, these #corvids are likely sitting open-mouthed to cool off in today's very hot weather. Breathing through their open bills causes the moisture in their mouths (and lungs!) to evaporate quickly as the outside air rushes in. So cool.
