Today I released a new video tutorial for Simplygon. I'll cover what flipbooks are and how to use them in #UnrealEngine.
Flipbook can be useful if you have issues with polycount primarily as it only requires a quad to render.

Today is first day back at Simplygon after summer vacation. I hope to get some nice and quiet start of the autumn and to get some blogging done.
Here is a sneak preview of the next blog that will cover draw call optimization via aggregation.
I also have an ambient occlusion map on this but given this is practically a fully custom shader, something tells me that thing does nothing, if it's even hooked up anywhere.
Back to coding that camera controller though, I'm getting really close to being able to navigate and interact with things again.
Using blueprints as “prefabs”, or as assemblies for static meshes (and/or other BP actors), is like building a mall for just a vending machine. So many things included that aren’t needed, and start with tick enabled by default. Curious if anyone’s home-brewed a simple container for mesh assemblies.

Made a quick breakdown of how I created the art in my #gmtkjam entry.
The whole game uses only 1 material and 2 textures - one texture is a 5x1 palette, the other is 3 512x512 masks packed in an RGBA texture.
Then, I use the vertex colors from the object to select a color and a mask (and affect how the mask moves and looks)
