So #photoshop wizards / #techartist types, how do you get metallic glows in 2D without a lighting effect?
I've always used the "lights" system in Photoshop for this, but they're deprecating that, which makes me think there's some other way people pull it off now?
I mean this kinda thing. Not the glow/blur around it, that's easy, I mean the process of taking a normal piece of art and turning it visually into a shiny trophy graphic?
Do any #techart / #techartist types have any good references for building interesting mountains in #Houdini or similar?
I mean interesting structurally, would be cool to hike / encounter at a person scale, not just Look Cool.
Also, any refs on cladding heightmap with mesh? So as to generate cliffs, instead of just lumpy steep heightmap.
We have TONS of things we've tried, but seems like others may have gone ahead of us here? Maybe there's SIGGRAPH papers or something?
forgot to post yesterday, but i did some preliminary work on making structures so that the PSD layers in the code have the same mental model as the PSD has in editing software
the layers in a PSD are stored somewhat "flat", meaning they're not presented to me as a tree in the same way
making code to have data structures feel more intuitive is always worth doing as a #TechArtist, especially if I open source this, I want programmers / people to have an easy time getting familiar :)

It's too fast for GPU fan spin-up. WHAT.
The computer's audio is muted. This is HARDWARE. But also there's no HDD (it's a pretty new PC).

Managed to test out an imposter tree forest in blender before my surprise nap. They hold up surprisingly well even up close. Should be great for filling in distant shots once I get a few more models ready ^^
This is just set up to work in blender. Might be cool to see if I can port them to unity or find a similar system I can use and modify for them down the line

Chain of Christmas Lights tool I did as a test. It has random bulb's color/lights variations, cable tension, imitation of the volumetric bubbles in material was done by reference with bumpdepth nodes
